This fine half-eternity stacking band with soft undulations features petite natural rubies set in solid 9ct rose gold. This ring is beautifully handcrafted using 100% recycled gold. The whole ring measures approximately (L)18.5 mm x (W)18.8 mm and the thickness of the band is 1.1 mm. The stone is round shape and the size is 1.2mm in diameter. This collection is inspired by various cultural wearing of thread and rubber bands. Some cultures believe in the mystical power of rubber bands and thread; weather it be by connecting people; protecting them from the ‘evil eye’; or maintaining your mental stability. In Japanese and in wider East Asian folklore, the concept of the ‘red string of fate’ is culturally prominent. It is said that fated lovers were conjoined by an unseen red string, tied around each of the lover’s little fingers. The unseen string is said to bond lovers in an ethereal and transcendent way. In Indian mythology, Black thread is widely believed to be an absorber of all the dark energy and the evil eye. Wearing black thread is thus intended to ward off malignant forces be they spiritual or physical. Black thread is less common in modern day trends – black rubber bands have taken their place. The thread and rubber bands are both made from disposable materials. MAIKO NAGAYAMA re-constructed and re-designed the previously perishable thread and rubber bands into rings, earrings and bangles in precious metal and natural gemstones to give the sense of timelessness that lasts forever. The unconventional design challenges the typical thickness of rings and bangles to counterbalance elegance and sturdiness. I hope it gives you psychological strength to seek your destiny and/or ward yourself from negative energy.
